When Paul C. Higginbotham returned from military service in 1948 to open an insurance agency in Fort Worth’s Riverside neighborhood, he could never have foreseen that 53 years later it would make its debut as one of the nation’s 100 largest independent brokers, serving the insurance needs of thousands of individuals and businesses across Texas and beyond.

    After returning from military service in World War II, Paul C. Higginbotham opens a small personal insurance brokerage firm in his Riverside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas.

  • Bill Stroud

    At Paul’s passing, his nephew Bill Stroud takes over management of the firm.

  • Bailey Building

    The firm moves four times in 15 years to more central buildings to attract an increasingly diverse clientele that includes businesses.

  • Employee Ownership

    At age 27, Rusty Reid becomes president and CEO. He implements an employee ownership model to engage employees in the success of the firm and launches a Single Source strategy by recruiting Michael Parks and Jim Hubbard to start offering employee benefits.

  • Denton Merger

    An agency in Denton merges with the firm, becoming its second office. That, and the opening of a third office in Dallas, is the first of many expansions in the next 10 years.

  • Fort Worth Location Ribbon Cutting

    The firm relocates headquarters to its present downtown Fort Worth location, a 36,309 sq. ft. building accommodating nearly 200 employees. 

  • Commercial Agency of the Year

    The firm is named National Underwriter inaugural “Commercial Agency of the Year” and appears for the first time on the Business Insurance “100 Largest Brokers of U.S. Business.”

  • Higginbotham's 60th Anniversary

    In its 60th year, the firm initiates an aggressive statewide growth strategy to achieve its vision of becoming the Best In Texas. 

  • HIgginbotham's Expansion

    Following several successful mergers in prior years, the firm begins strategically merging with likeminded agencies, expanding the firm’s footprint to more than 20 offices across the state.

  • Higginbotham Community Fund Established

    The Higginbotham Community Fund is established through the Community Foundation of North Texas and funded by employees to put money into charitable works that they support across Texas.

  • Higginbotham Surpasses $100 million in revenue

    The firm surpasses $100 million in revenue for the first time.

  • Best Agency to Work For

    The firm becomes Insurance Journal’s “Best Agency to Work For—South Central” based on employee feedback.
